Fall 2023 Grant Success Story
Congratulations to Bishop Ward High School, one of our Fall 2023 Grant Program recipients! With the assistance of this grant, they hosted a shared staff professional fundraising webinar, providing additional staff training opportunities for the advancement team.
"The grant money was spent on staff development to attend a national grant professional conference being held in Kansas City. We hosted a shared staff training of a professional fundraising webinar regarding making newsletters more effective and profitable. We hosted advancement staff from Bishop Miege and St. James Academy (in addition to Bishop Ward staff). We were also proud to have local Wyandotte County entities participate from The Learning Club and KCKCC. The remaining funds were utilized for all advancement staff to get training in their area of specialty (i.e. grants, marketing, special events, and major gifts)," shares Kathy Calcara, Grants and Major Gifts Officer at Bishop Ward High School.

Staff Member Highlight
Bridget Downey is the Senior Accountant for the Catholic Foundation of Northeast Kansas. Bridget enjoys doing activities with her 2 dogs and almost 14 nieces and nephews any chance she gets. She enjoys traveling and has been to Italy, Thailand, and India. Since Covid, she has only traveled domestically, mostly in the southeastern states, but is looking forward to traveling globally again.
Bridget is Level 1 and 2 certified to teach Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, and volunteers her time teaching at Queen of the Holy Rosary, Wea and Holy Spirit Catholic Church. In her spare time, she enjoys playing Catholic Challenge Sports with City on a Hill. Her favorites are kickball and softball.
Bridget graduated from Baker University with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting in 2018, and held a role as our Accounting Assistant for the last 2.5 years. We are grateful to have Bridget as a member of our team!
