Empowering Generosity

2023-2024 Educational Workshops

The Catholic Foundation of Northeast Kansas (CFNEK) offers workshops on smart giving and estate planning, helping parishioners make lasting contributions to support their parishes.

25 Workshops

724 Attendees

The Catholic Foundation of Northeast Kansas (CFNEK) has become an essential partner for parishes and parishioners across the Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas. Through its educational workshops, CFNEK provides vital resources, support, and training to help sustain the mission of the Church. These workshops, conducted in collaboration with pastors, parishes, and professional advisors, cover crucial topics such as smarter ways to give, tax-reducing strategies for pre- and post-retirees, and comprehensive estate planning.

CFNEK’s partnership with the Catholic Advisors Network—comprised of estate planning attorneys, accountants, financial planners, tax professionals, wealth managers, and insurance advisors—enhances the effectiveness of these workshops. This network promotes collaboration, education, and leadership in current and planned giving, ensuring parishioners are well-informed and equipped to make impactful contributions.

During the 2023-2024 fiscal year, CFNEK, in collaboration with the Catholic Advisors Network and various parishes, organized 25 workshops attended by 724 parishioners. These sessions offered insights into effective giving strategies, such as using Donor Advised Funds, making Qualified Charitable Distributions from IRAs, and donating appreciated securities. Attendees learned how these methods not only maximize their charitable impact but also provide significant tax benefits. The workshops also covered essential estate planning topics, including wills, trusts, bequests, and beneficiary designations.

The impact of these workshops has been profound. Generous parishioners have initiated various acts of giving, such as opening donor-advised funds to support parish projects, making estate gifts to parish endowments, and designating proceeds from property sales to benefit parish endowment funds. These contributions, managed and invested by CFNEK, ensure sustainable support for the designated parishes.

CFNEK encourages all parishioners to consider including their parish in their estate plans. Simple acts like bequests in wills or trusts, or designating parishes as beneficiaries of retirement assets, life insurance policies, bank accounts, and investment funds, can make a significant impact on the future of parish communities.

Through these educational initiatives, CFNEK continues to empower parishioners to give generously and wisely, ensuring the ongoing vitality and mission of parishes across the Archdiocese.
