August is National Make a Will Month!

August is National Make a Will Month. It’s hard to believe, but nearly 67% of Americans don’t have a legal will. As we’re all stewards of Christ, now is a great time to review or begin your will to honor God with the many blessings He’s given us. Writing your will is a powerful way to steward those blessings God has entrusted to you while protecting the people you love and creating a legacy that extends your faith for generations to come.

Creating a will can help you:

  • Protect your family, loved ones, and ministries that matter to you

  • Steward the blessings God has entrusted to you

  • Create a legacy that extends your faith and values far beyond your lifetime

Visit our Wills Planner if you would like to create a plan for your future, or need to make updates to an existing plan.

Staff Member Highlight

Robert Venable (Bobby) is the Controller of the Catholic Foundation of Northeast Kansas.

Bobby has lived in the Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas his entire life. He was baptized, attended grade school, and confirmed at Curé of Ars. While in Lawrence at KU, he alternated between the St. Lawrence Center and Corpus Christi, his sister's parish. His wedding was officiated by Monsignor McGlinn in 2003. He and his wife Heather then settled down south and now attend Nativity. They have been blessed with a beautiful daughter, Victoria, who will be starting her senior year at Aquinas this fall.

He brought many years of financial experience to CFNEK, having earned a BA in Economics at KU, a BS in Accounting and an MBA in Finance, both from UMKC. He then achieved his CPA and CFA charterholder certifications. After practicing accounting on the Plaza at Mayer Hoffman McCann, he pursued an opportunity to focus on corporate financial planning & analysis, joining Carla Mills' team at American Century Investments, where he served in various financial roles over sixteen years with AmCen. In addition to hiring Bobby, Carla honed her matchmaking skills, introducing him to Heather.

Having stayed in touch with Carla over the years, she brought to his attention the CFNEK controller position during the pandemic. Bobby was very interested by this opportunity and has been here since. Over the past few years he has enjoyed helping the team modernize their systems and procedures while they continue to grow.
