Charitable Giving Strategies

A QCD allows you to transfer up to $105,000 directly from your IRA to a qualified charity without counting the distribution as taxable income. This unique opportunity lets you support the causes you care about while enjoying significant tax advantages.

Tax-Free Distribution: Unlike regular withdrawals, QCDs are not subject to income tax, keeping your taxable income lower.

Satisfy Your RMD: QCDs count toward your required minimum distribution (RMD), helping you meet your mandatory withdrawal obligations without increasing your tax burden.

Support Your Favorite Charities: Make a meaningful contribution to the organizations that matter most to you.

Reduce your AGI: Lower your adjusted gross income (AGI), which can benefit other areas of your tax return, such as reducing the taxation of Social Security benefits and potentially lowering Medicare premiums.

Contact your IRA Custodian: Request a direct transfer from your IRA to the charity of your choice. Notify the charity.

Maximize your philanthropic efforts and enjoy the financial benefits of a Qualified Charitable Distribution! Contact the Catholic Foundation of Northeast Kansas if you are interested in learning more.

The Joyce K. Miller Scholarship fund was established in December 2023 by Kathryn Miller in memory of her mom; Joyce K. Miller.  Joyce K. Miller was a registered nurse and enjoyed caring for the elderly in a skilled nursing setting.  Joyce always put her faith in God above all else.

This year's scholarship recipient of the Joyce K. Miller Scholarship Fund is Julia Nemec, a senior nursing student at Benedictine College.  The Joyce K. Miller Scholarship has taken the financial stress off of Julia going into her senior year at Benedictine College.  The scholarship will allow Julia not to worry about finances or working too much during the academic school year.  Julia's long-term goals are to never lose sight of the dignity of the person in front of her.  Julia chose nursing to love and serve the person in front of her.  She says it's her job as a nurse to love her patients and to be with them through their suffering when they are most vulnerable.
